Occasional Research Assistant
The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment has established a new Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx), focused on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research, and developing well targeted policy analysis and other outputs, by convening policymakers, and by providing technical support, assistance and capacity building.
CETEx is looking for two temporary, hourly-paid research assistants (ORAs) to begin employment as soon as possible. These research assistants would work alongside Lea Reitmeier and David Barmes in the Monetary and Financial Markets work programme at CETEx on research and policy projects on sustainable finance, including the implications of climate change and environmental degradation for central banks and financial supervisors.
The successful candidates will provide support to CETEx and will play a role in assisting the research and organisational tasks involved in the team’s policy and research projects. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to a project focused on developing a framework for effective policy implementation and coordination for the economic transition to a sustainable net-zero economy, including engagement opportunities with economic and financial stakeholders. Additional responsibilities may include:
• reviewing policy documents and academic literature;
• contributing to evidence-based policy publications;
• organising seminars, workshops and other events;
• liaising with researchers, policymakers and relevant networks;
• collecting and analysing relevant data.
Ideal candidates are master’s or PhD students in geography, economics, finance, international development, law or related fields. Candidates should have excellent writing and communication skills in English and be literate in applied economic policy research. A basic understanding of the operations of central banks, financial supervisors and other economic policy institutions is necessary, and knowledge of their role in responding to climate change and environmental degradation is desirable. Please note it is essential that candidates be based in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK.
Selected candidates will work for an average of 10-20 hours a week from January to the end of July.
The hourly rate starts from £23.23 inclusive of holiday pay, depending on previous experience and qualifications.
