He served as a Senior Advisor in the Division of Supervision and Regulation at the Federal Reserve Board, where he designed and led the Fed’s microprudential approach to the financial risks of climate change and co-chaired the Basel Committee’s Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Risks. Prior to that role, Kevin served as Executive Vice President and Head of the Supervision Group and held other senior roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
He has also worked as a Wall Street equity analyst and as a professor of economics. Kevin has published his academic research in leading economic and finance journals. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Harvard University and B.A. in Economics and Psychology from Swarthmore College.
Rob Patalano, Executive Director and Professor in Practice of CETEx stated: ‘We’re delighted and privileged to have Kevin Stiroh join CETEx as a Visiting Professor in Practice. Kevin brings deep climate supervisory and policy experience from his distinguished career at the New York and the Federal Reserve Board, which included executive-level roles across supervision, research, and markets, as well as his influential leadership to co-lead the Basel Committee’s seminal work on climate-related financial risks. The LSE Global School of Sustainability and our stakeholders will greatly benefit from his policy perspectives to address evolving climate risks, and future research on financial risks and prudential policy.’
Kevin Stiroh stated: “I am excited to join the LSE Center for Economic Transition Expertise as a Visiting Professor of Practice. Climate-related impacts on the real economy and financial sector continue to grow and there is much we don’t know about transmission mechanisms, allocation of risks, and effective policy responses. It is imperative that we continue to do the necessary high-quality research that CETEx is known for in order to better understand these complex linkages and promote stronger policy responses.”
