The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx) are pleased to announce the appointment of Pekka Morén as a Visiting Professor in Practice.

Pekka brings extensive experience at the intersection of economic policy, finance and climate action, having built a distinguished career in public service and international climate coalitions. He has served as Special Representative of the Minister of Finance on Climate Action for the Government of Finland, where he has co-chaired the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action’s Deputies group, a global network of finance officials working to integrate climate considerations into economic policymaking. In this capacity he has played a central role in advancing collective approaches to economic policies and investment strategies that address climate risks and support sustainable economic transitions.

Over the years, Pekka’s responsibilities have encompassed leadership roles within the Ministry of Finance of Finland, including oversight of international financial affairs and contributions to euro area stability policy. He has represented Finland on international boards, such as the Nordic Investment Bank, and worked early in his career on economic and financial policy at the European Commission. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Helsinki and completed additional studies at the University of Edinburgh

Pekka’s practical experience in aligning economic, fiscal and financial policies with climate objectives complements CETEx’s mission to generate rigorous research and policy-relevant insights that support sustainable, inclusive and resilient financial and economic transitions. In his role at CETEx, Pekka will engage with research initiatives and policy discussions relating to climate-aligned economic and financial policy, helping to bridge practitioner expertise and academic analysis for policymakers and stakeholders across Europe and beyond. CETEx welcomes Pekka’s insights as it deepens its engagement on critical topics in economic transitions and sustainable finance.

Commenting on his new role, Pekka said:

“I am honoured to join the LSE as one of the world’s leading institutions on climate economics and social sciences. Economic policy makers need stronger linkages to the research community in managing the green transformation. Joining CETEx as a Visiting Professor in Practice provides a unique opportunity to deepen collaboration with the leading academics and practitioners on economic and financial system transitions as well as to find new solutions for decisionmakers.”

Simon Dikau, Global Director of CETEx stated:

“We are delighted to welcome Pekka to CETEx and LSE as a Visiting Professor in Practice. Pekka brings a wealth of experience from the frontlines of international economic and climate policymaking, including his leadership role in the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action. His deep understanding of how fiscal and financial policies can support the transition to a sustainable economy will be invaluable to CETEx’s work. We look forward to collaborating with him to strengthen the bridge between academic research and real-world policy, and to advancing practical solutions for ministries of finance that support resilient and inclusive economic transitions.”
