The CETEx India Hub was established in June 2026 to equip financial and economic decision-makers in India with the tools, evidence and policy frameworks needed to navigate risks and drive forward a clean, resilient and prosperous transition in the world’s fastest growing G20 economy.

India is undergoing an unprecedented economic and financial transformation. This transformation is propelled by India’s bold national strategies to become a developed (Viksit Bharat) and self-sufficient (Atmanirbhar Bharat) country by 2047, as well as a landmark 2070 net zero commitment, declared at COP26 in Glasgow. The global technological revolution presents a remarkable opening for India’s vast and highly skilled workforce, yet the economy and financial system remain acutely exposed to the escalating impacts of climate change and deepening geopolitical fragmentation.

Anchored by a core team in London, the CETEx India Hub draws on the combined strengths of CETEx, LSE and India’s vibrant local policy ecosystem to produce cutting-edge empirical research, architect innovative policy solutions, and elevate India’s own pioneering efforts on the global stage.

The Hub’s work is organised across three high-impact research areas:

  1. Safeguarding macroeconomic stability – filling critical empirical gaps through rigorous quantitative research on how India’s transition reshapes growth, inflation, supply chains, financial stability, fiscal revenues and expenditure, and employment, while arming policymakers with actionable options to mitigate risks and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
  1. Mobilising adaptation and transition finance – crafting innovative policy solutions that translate international best practice into the Indian context. This workstream harnesses comparative research and high-level global convenings to catalyse peer learning across the Global South, spotlighting India’s own successes as a model for others.
  2. Accelerating the energy and employment transition – empowering monetary, financial and economic policymakers at the national and subnational levels to design and deliver ambitious industrial and energy strategies that meet India’s rapidly growing demand for clean energy and productive employment.
