Dr Muhamad Chatib Basri is a former Minister of Finance of Indonesia and former Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board. He currently serves on the National Economic Council of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, a presidential advisory body of academics, business leaders, and former senior officials, and, until December 2026, is a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Center for International Development.
He is Co-Chair of the Pandemic Fund hosted by the World Bank, and a member of the Independent High-Level Expert Group on Climate Finance for the COP. He teaches at the University of Indonesia’s Department of Economics. He has previously held fellowships at Harvard Kennedy School, UC San Diego, and the Australian National University.
His work has appeared in the American Economic Review, the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, and the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University and was named an IEA Fellow in 2024. His research interests include international trade, macroeconomics, political economy, and climate finance.
